The Great Park Conservancy was formed in 2000 to support the creation of the Orange County Great Park. Working together with the Great Park Corporation and the City of Irvine, the Conservancy shares with these other organizations a common goal of creating a truly wonderful park for the entire Orange County community.

The
Great Park Conservancy is committed to supporting a regional advocacy
program that promotes the goals, purposes, and uses for the creation of
the best possible Orange County Great Park. Our countywide Public Information Program’s current and past work includes: quarterly newsletters, our website, emails to the Web Community, televised public service announcements, community surveys, posters, and other support materials for the Orange County Great Park. Through our Public Information Program, we have reached hundreds of thousands of residents with a strong message of support for the Orange county Great Park.

The Great Park Conservancy supports and promotes public involvement in the creation of the Orange County Great Park. We involve residents from all over Orange County to ensure a regional focus for the Great Park. Our Outreach Program aims to reach all levels of the community. Our countywide Community Outreach Program’s current and past work includes: a Community Forum series that has been offered to all Orange County residents; a Community Outreach series offered to civic leaders, business associations, and community groups; and a Community Outreach program that distributes Great Park support materials to cities, schools and community groups. Additionally, we offer a variety of opportunities for the Great Park Advisory Council to be involved. |
The Conservancy has already raised over $3 Million in support of the Great Park. Over time, we will raise tens of millions of dollars in private funding to enhance developments within the Great Park. We are establishing a fundraising base that will help to raise money for the public facilities and programs at the Great Park. These programs and facilities will add great value to the Great Park financing plan developed by the City of Irvine. Donations to the Great Park Conservancy are tax-deductible to the full extent permitted by law. |
As we launch into a new phase in Orange County’s history, it is important to remember what came before. The land at El Toro has a proud history, from its agrarian days when it was owned by the Irvine family to its years as one of our country’s premier military bases. To honor this history, the Conservancy published In Transition, El Toro: A Photographic Essay from Past to Present in 2003. In 2004, we hosted the Annexation Celebration at the former Officer’s Club. In 2006, the Board of Directors of the Great Park Conservancy created a committee dedicated to ensuring that the history of the El Toro property is honored and remembered. The land at the Great Park has many human stories to tell, from when it was home to native Americans, Spanish and Mexican settlers to its early statehood days, to a time of lush agricultural production, and finally to its most recent history as a U.S. Military Base. We are committed to keeping that history alive. |
